C-USA Basketball Power Rankings:

1. Middle Tennessee (14-5, 6-1 C-USA) – Last Week #2
Blue Raiders regained the top spot even though they went 1-1 last week. Nick King saved them time and time again in Saturday’s matchup at WKU. Every time the Hilltoppers got close King would answer.

2. Western Kentucky (14-6, 6-1 C-USA) – Last Week #1
If Darius Thompson has a half decent game versus MTSU, the Hilltoppers win. I still think they are the more talented team but you have to beat the best to be the best and they didn’t do that. If they can continue to play like they have it could set up a huge game at the end of the season in the rematch with MTSU.

3. Old Dominion (15-4, 6-1 C-USA) – Last Week #4
I don’t think the Monarchs are getting enough love or respect that they probably deserve. They have won 10 of their last 11 games with that lone loss being to WKU. They have charlotte this week but next week will be when they have a chance to make some statement wins against UAB and MTSU.

4. Marshall (14-6, 5-2 C-USA) – Last Week #6
The Herd probably had the best week in C-USA. They had two huge wins over MTSU and UAB at home and CJ Burks was named player of the week. Burks and Jon Elmore are the only teammates in the top 20 scoring in the country. Ajdin Penava also leads the country in blocks per game (4.9).

5. UAB (13-7, 4-3 C-USA) – Last Week #3
Not the best week for the Blazers that included losses on the road at WKU and Marshall. It was a tough road swing but one that the Blazers could have swept. They led in both games in the final minutes but couldn’t seal the deal. Blazers have a chance to get back on track this week with home games against UTSA and UTEP

6. Southern Miss (11-10, 4-4 C-USA) – Last Week #9
USM is tough to figure out. They are undefeated at home this season 9-0 and 4-0 in C-USA but 1-6 on the road and 0-4 in C-USA. In conference games the Golden Eagles score 87.5 PPG at home but only 64 PPG on the road. That’ll have to change as they start off a three game road swing at La Tech on Saturday.

7. Louisiana Tech (12-9, 3-5 C-USA) – Last week #8
The Bulldogs got back into the winning ways last week versus UNT and Rice. So far in conference their losses have come against teams that are a combined 24-11 in C-USA while their wins have come against teams that are 6-15. They only have one game this week against Southern Miss, should be a good one featuring a bunch of good guards.

8. FAU (9-10, 3-4 C-USA) – Last Week #7
The Owls have won 3 of their last 4 games with the loss coming to ODU. They’ll look to continue improve with games against UNT and Rice this week.

9. North Texas (10-10, 3-4 C-USA) – Last Week #5
Tough week for the Mean Green that started with a game they should have won in Ruston but a last second foul call gave the La Tech a shot at some game winning free throws. I think they have been involved in some of the closest games in conference. They start off a three game home stand that starts with FAU and FIU this week.

10. UTSA (10-10, 3-4 C-USA) – Last Week #12
UTSA snapped a three game losing streak in the win versus UTEP. The Runners came back from 16 down in the first half to win 65-61. Now they face a tough 4 game stretch vs MTSU, UAB, Marshall and WKU.

11. FIU (9-11, 3-4 C-USA) – Last Week #11
The Panthers have followed up each win in conference this year with two straight losses. Well, they just beat Charlotte in their last game and will try to avoid another two game skid at Rice tomorrow night.

12. UTEP (7-12, 2-5 C-USA) – Last Week #10
Man, I don’t even know what to say about that loss against UTSA. Miners are talented but cant put things together. As a four game stretch against UAB, MTSU, WKU and Marshall looms the Miners better figure something out quick or they could be watching the conference tournament from the outside.

13. Rice (4-16, 1-6 C-USA) – Last Week #13
Calling it now, Owls win both games this week……..maybe…..

14. Charlotte (5-13, 1-6 C-USA) – Last Week #14
Five straight losses and things don’t seem to be getting any better any time soon.
