C-USA Basketball Power Rankings
1. Middle Tennessee (11-4, 3-0 C-USA) – Last Week #1
A couple of shaky games in Florida that included an overtime but were able to leave with two wins. The Blue Raiders better start playing better ball or they’re going to lose a game they shouldn’t this week.
2. Western Kentucky (11-5, 3-0 C-USA) – Last Week #4
What was supposed to be the game of the week last week vs Marshall turned into the biggest blowout of the week. The Hilltoppers are playing some real good ball with 5 guys scoring 13+ PPG in C-USA play. Can they make another statement tomorrow night at ODU?
3. Old Dominion (12-3, 3-0 C-USA) – Last Week #2
The Monarchs struggled on the road last week against Rice and North Texas but have won 7 straight. They rank in the top 15 in the nation in 6 different defensive categories. They’ll have to put a great defensive performance together to beat WKU. Winner takes over the #1 spot.
4. UAB (11-5, 2-1 C-USA) – Last Week #3
The Blazers didn’t have much trouble with the Florida schools last week but dropped a spot because of the beat down WKU put on Marshall. UAB is 8-2 in their last 10 games so their starting to play their best ball of the year.
5. North Texas (9-8, 2-2 C-USA) – Last Week #7
They could easily be 0-4 or 4-0 in conference right now with their first four games being decided by one possession. I’ll keep myself thinking they deserve the latter. If their guard play keep playing at a high level, they’re going to be tough every night.
6. Marshall (11-5, 2-1 C-USA) – Last Week #5
The Thundering Herd got blown out at home vs Western Kentucky but they lost a lot more than just a game. Penava was injured in the loss and seems to be out for at least this week. Marshall is a totally different animal without him.
7. Louisiana Tech (10-7, 1-3 C-USA) – Last week #6
Bulldogs won a game it badly needed vs UTEP. They put together their best offensive performance of conference play. Have they figured themselves out without Jalen Harris?
8. Southern Miss (9-8, 2-2 C-USA) – Last Week #12
Probably the biggest turnaround in a week in conference play so far. They went from scoring 66 PPG in their first two losses to scoring 89 PPG in their two wins last week. Doc Sadler always gets the most out of his players.
9. UTSA (9-2, 2-2 C-USA) – Last Week #9
Jhivvan Jackson. That. Is. All.
10. UTEP (6-10, 1-3 C-USA) – Last Week #8
Miners extended years of turmoil in Hattiesburg and Ruston for at least another year. Best news? Florida schools are visiting El Paso and Keith Frazier is back. Look for the Miners to make a jump next week.
11. FIU (7-9, 1-2 C-USA) – Last Week #10
Gave MTSU and UAB all they could handle last week. Look for the Panthers to get one in Texas this week vs UTEP or UTSA.
12. Rice (4-13, 1-3 C-USA) – Last Week #14
Played ODU down to overtime and beat Charlotte. Would consider that a very, very successful week in Tudor.
13. Charlotte (5-9, 1-2 C-USA) – Last Week #13
Adrien White is averaging 21 PPG in C-USA.
14. FAU (6-9, 0-3 C-USA) – Last Week #11
The Owls have lost 6 straight games. I think it’s time to get Lane Kiffin to help with that offense, they averaged only 50.5 PPG last week.
