      UPDATE: After taking his official visit to El Paso, Evan Gilyard announced on twitter that he has verbally committed to the Miners.     Gilyard is a lightning quick left handed point guard who averaged 13 PPG last season and shot better than 50% from behind the arc. UTEP to play in 2017 Puerto Rico Shootout

The always palpable Jon Rothstein from CBS sports tweeted out earlier that the Miners would be one of eight teams headlining the 2017 Puerto Rico Shootout. Other teams headlining will be Florida St, Iowa St, South Carolina, Boise St, Tulsa, Illinois St and Western Michigan. The 2016 Puerto Rico Shootout runs from November 17-20. The field includes Xavier, Missouri, Davidson, Clemson, Arizona State, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, and Tulane. This years tournament was actually relocated to Orlando, FL, due to Zika virus concerns. UTEP offers 2018 Darius Henderson

According to his twitter feed, UTEP offered 2018 forward Darius Henderson from Pasadena, CA. At 6’8″ and 220 lbs, ESPN ranks him as the 38th best prospect in the state. According to MaxPreps, Henderson averaged 20.2 PPG his sophomore season. On another recruiting note, UTEP assistant coach Bobby Braswell was also paying a visit to 2018 3 star guard Bryce Hamilton. And yes he is related to THAT Hamilton.

Conference USA relseased the intial TV schedule this morning. Over 40 C-USA games will be televised this season on CBS sports network, American sports network, and beIN sports. Five of UTEP’s sixteen conference games are initially scheduled to be televised. UTEP adds Ladarius Brewer to 2017 Class

UTEP adds Ladarius Brewer to 2017 Class

 The Miners received a commitment from 2017 Guard Ladarius Brewer from Meridian, Mississippi.  Will Sammon, a recruiting editor of the Clarion Ledger, first reported the commitment.  Brewer is a 6’6″ forward for his high school but is expected to play the guard role at the next level. He was on a official visit to Duquesne this past weekend.  The commitment kind of came out of left field as no offer or interest had ever been reported. The 2017 class now includes Brewer and Kobe Magee.

Vince Hunter signs with Chicago Bulls

After an outstanding first season in the D-League, Vince Hunter is getting a shot to make an NBA roster with the Chicago Bulls. According to NBC Sports, Hunter and former Colorado State forward JJ Avila, were signed by the Bulls to compete for the final roster spot with guards Spencer Dinwiddie and D’vantes Smith-Rivera. Hunter averaged 21.8 PPG and 11.3 RPG for the Reno Bighorns last season.  Chicago starts training camp on the 27th and first preseason game is October 2nd.
